Ok, so maybe not quite yet. But the IEEE standards group over WiFi technology has recently approved a new WiFi 802.22 technology that will allow your home network to reach up to 60 miles!
This new technology uses the analog TV airwaves that were previously tied up before the switch to digital. This wireless connection is reported reach a speed of up to 22Mbps as well. There is no date expected for any devices of this technology to be released, unfortunately.
Who needs a remote connection to your home pc when you can go to work or a coffee shop and still be connected to your home network. We use to worry about using repeaters to extend the WiFi connection in our homes. Now the thought crosses my mind about setting up repeaters to extend my network across the state at homes of friends and families!
