iPhone 4S And iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak Coming Soon

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 iOS 5 untethered jailbreak soon

Even though the untethered jailbreak is not released yet for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod 3G, or iPod 4G on iOS 5, hacker Pod2G is currently working on the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak. He has been keeping everyone updated via his blog and reports:

Hello.

Here are the news of the 4S week-end.

The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.

I’m close, but I can’t figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the Cortex-A9 cache management.

I could sort it out quick, it’s a matter of chance.

I’ll report you my progress tomorrow.

Hopefully Pod2G will be able to create an untethered jailbreak for the A5 chipped iPhone 4S. If he can manage a working jailbreak for the iPhone 4S, the iPad 2 should be likely as well. Some of Pod2G’s previous posts hints that some form of iPhone 4S jailbreak should be available in the near future, whether that be tethered or untethered.

UPDATE: Pod2G has figured out the processor cache issue.

OK, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore.

I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.

It took me like a hundred of tests to find the key. Hard for the nerves.
