Send Files Wirelessly With AirDrop On OS X Lion

Send Files Wirelessly to other MacsSend files wirelessly

Now you can send files wirelessly to anyone around you without additional setup. AirDrop uses peer-to-peer Wi-Fi with Mac computers automatically finding other nearby Macs that are using AirDrop. They will appear in the Finder displaying the users’ contact photos. When you close the Finder window or click outside AirDrop, your Mac is no longer visible to other users.

Drag and drop file sharing

Simply drag a file onto a person’s contact photo to share it. You will be asked if you want to send the file and once accepted, the file transfers to the recipient’s Downloads folder.

Security

Files are encrypted using TLS for secure transfer. ****AirDrop creates a firewall between you and the person you are sharing a file with, preventing anyone from accessing your computer over that connection. AirDrop can verify the identity of the person attempting to send you a file using the Apple ID. If the sender is in your Address Book and are signed in with their Apple ID, their name will appear below their photo in AirDrop.
