Mozilla Firefox 6 Features Are Minimal

Firefox 6 has officially been released as of August 15th even though it was expected at a later date. As could be expected from Mozilla’s new, faster updating schedule, the changes in Firefox 6 appear to be mostly incremental.

The new version doesn’t have any major interface changes but is 20% faster than Firefox 5. Startup time has also been improved especially for those like me with a lot of tabs and groups. Firefox 6 uses about 8% less resources than the older version so it doesn’t bog down you pc as much. Firefox 6 handles zoom better and looks a lot cleaner when you zoom in on a page.

Firefox 6 also includes a permissions feature to allow site-specific permissions for security and privacy including passwords and pop-ups. A plugins check was also added to let users see if their plugins and extensions are up to date. Domain names are now highlighted in the address bar. The Web Console has been improved and a Scratchpad tool for developers to test JavaScript within the browser.
