Create A Bootable OS X Lion USB, SD, or DVD With Lion Diskmaker

We recently wrote a somewhat technical post on how to create a bootable drive or disk to install OS X Lion. Now we will share how you can create a bootable flash drive, sd card, firewire drive, or DVD with an application called Lion DiskMaker.

This simplified method was developed by Guillaume Gete with AppleScript that you can use  with Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 to build a bootable USB drive or DVD from OS X Lion’s installation program.

Requirements:

  • 4 GB drive or DVD (contents will be erased)
  • OS X 10.6 or 10.7
  • Purchase and download OS X Lion from the Mac App Store (app must be in the Applications folder)

*Note-this process will not work on a Mac with OS X Lion pre-installed

As soon as you launch the application, it checks the presence of Mac OS X Lion __Install in the /Applications folder, or tries to find one using Spotlight. Then, it proposes to build a DVD or create a USB bootable install disk.
